Hunanese Composer Liu Shiwei's Musical Work Premiers in Spain

Recently, the new musical work ihre Berge (Their Mountains) by Liu Shiwei, a young Hunanese composer based in Germany, premiered in Spain. The work was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Galicia.

Blending symphony orchestra with electronic music, this piece draws inspiration from the legendary story of "Eight Thousand Young Women from Hunan Ascend Tianshan". Using avant-garde music as a medium, Liu Shiwei brought the resilient and fearless spirit of these Hunan women to the international stage.

As a young composer who grew up in Changsha and studied in Germany, Liu Shiwei is known for creating works from a female perspective through a multicultural lens. She fuses the intonation of the Hunan dialect with contemporary Western music, exploring innovative ways of using language as an instrument. The creation of ihre Berge resonates with her personal experiences of studying far from home and using music to bridge cultures. This work is both a tribute to Hunan women and a bold experiment in cultural fusion.
